Snow Days!
We can’t believe how much snow we got last week! Thursday I enjoyed having the blinds and curtains pulled back and just looking out as the snow fell all day. It was beautiful! Hannah and I got out and played in it on Thursday and I built Hannah her first snowman just her size. Then on Friday Chris took Hannah out twice. In the morning he built her a big snowman, and she liked being out there so much that in the afternoon she insisted that He take her out again.

Christmas Continued
Christmas afternoon we headed up to OKC to have Christmas with my parents. It was a really slow drive through snow and ice, but we made it! And then had a great Christmas dinner and opened gifts.
By this time Hannah fully understood ripping open gifts, but instead of just going to the next gift to open she needed to have that gift out to play with for a minute and then she would move on the the next gift.
The day after Christmas we left Hannah in the capable hands of MeMa and PaPa and headed back to Dallas to get ready for our cruise!

Christmas Morning
We had Christmas morning at home this year. It was fun to have our own family Christmas and to make some family traditions. We went to the Christmas Eve service at Church and made it home in the snow. We had blueberry waffles with Rediwhip (we ate the whole can, the smaller one :). Hannah enjoyed eating the blueberries out of the waffles and then the waffle. Christmas morning we woke up and read they Christmas story from Luke and opened gifts. After gift we bundled up Hannah in her cousin Ashlyn’s snow suit that she had handed down. (I never thought she would wear it, but she did even though it was probably a little much) We had fun out in the Christmas snow.

Hannah’s First Snow
We had snow at the beginning of December and Hannah was in awe. She spotted it first out the window and started pointing and talking about bubbles. I took her out and she wouldn’t even look at me, she was so interested in the snow.
Thanksgiving at the Currys
Here are some pictures from Thanksgiving. We went to Arkansas and spent time with Chris’ family. Hannah had fun playing with Cousin Addy and was “gentle” with her. And yes Hannah is riding around in a cozy coupe in the house, almost anything goes at the grandparents :)

Alaska Fair
Alaska Railroad and Glacier Cruise

On the way to Whittier they slowed down the train so everyone could see these Dall sheep up on the cliff. If you look closely at the middle of the picture you will see a couple of white specks, the sheep. I tried zooming in but I just got a fuzzy picture.

We passed many rivers and streams and happened upon a fisherman proudly showing off his catch to the passengers on our train.

A glacier we passed on the train. The day was a rainy one so it is a little hazy, but I liked the evergreens in the foreground and the mountains and glacier in the background.

Here is the ship we cruised on. No, not the Carnival ship, but the small ship in front of it, the Emerald Sea. It was funny I took a picture of our ship, but then when I looked at the picture all I could see was the Carnival ship.

There were many waterfalls, I thought this one in particular was very pretty.

Here we are at the Blackstone Glacier that was named after a mail carrier from way back when that died in this bay when he was caught up in a blizzard.

Portage Glacier Valley

I am not sure if this is the Portage glacier or not. It seems to me that glaciers come in groups. Whenever there was one there was at least 2 or 3 more. If you look at the glacier it looks blue and that is because the glacier really is blue. We learned from a Forrest Ranger that glaciers look blue because the ice crystals are so small that they absorb all colors of light except the blue rays which they reflect so that the ice appears blue. Also we learned that for a glacier to be in fact a glacier it must cover 25 acres.

Here we are in front of Portage lake and the glacier is back behind us. This lake was carved out by the Portage glacier and the glacier in the 1800s was actually were we were standing.

Here is a zoomed in shot of the Portage glacier across the lake.

A stream ran along side the trail up to the Byron glacier. I assume that the water is from the glacier. It was very cold. Here Chris is letting Hannah feel the icy water.

When we got up to the glacier we were surprised to find that we could actually walk right up and touch it which was so exciting. Or so we thought. Later when talking to the Forrest Ranger we found out that this is actually a snow field from an avalanche off of the glacier. Since it came off of the glacier I will continue to say that I walked up to a glacier and was able to touch it. He didn't say how long ago the avalanche occurred, but it has been many many years. There was a cave carved out of the ice by the stream that was tall enough to walk back into, if you are the adventurous type. It was really awesome to be able to see it so up-close.

Hannah reaching out to touch the ice.

And then to taste it!!!! When do children out grow the need to explore and experience everything by taste?
